She works as a painter making large-scale abstracts both, non-objective and expressionist. Growing up in Nebraska, her first subject was wildlife. Right from the start, she was not interested in drawing what was there, but taking things away. Her style leans into creating pieces that evoke a feeling. She uses water to bend realistic images until they reflect an emotional state. Her works layer the textures of acrylics, pigments, ink, and spray paint. With these layers, she creates a visual depth that moves the eye across the page.
Her use of canvas is as flexible as her approach to art. She paints on everything – stairwells, canvases, even cakes! Her largest works are murals created for commercial spaces in Chicago, like the Capital One Cafe. Her canvases include original pieces and commissions. They function both as a part of private art collections and as focal points of rooms by local interior designers.
Katie Meuser completed a BFA at the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 2009. She was a featured artist in several shows and festivals located in Chicago, Seoul, and elsewhere.
